Nose of Zin through and through with jammy (strawberry or cherry) sweetness and herbs plus smoke. Lovely flavors, strong and robust as a Zin usually is. Not deeply extracted and concentrated tones like Lodi or foothills Zin, but most certainly as zingy, pert, and spicy as they should be. Excellent wine. Hope the sustainability isn't just lip service but the wine provides great lip, tongue, and nose service anyway...

Castoro Cellars Zinfandel Paso Robles 2005
14.5%, Produced and Bottled by Castoro Wines, San Miguel, CA
S.I.P. Grower with Central Vineyard Team
Inky, slightly smokey nose. Less fruit more "winey" than your average expectation from Zin. Fruit in the palate and linger. Also packs that Zin zing. Some herb and bitter but nice balance. Tasty hot-climate-classic California Zin. Damn fine way to introduce the Paso Zin to the unknowing.

Steelhead Quivira Vineyards Zinfandel 2006
Dry Creek Valley. Quivira Vineyards Sonoma, CA. 13.8%
(Trout Unlimited seal of approval and a donation to them for each bottle sold).
Subtle and elegant aroma. Some fruit, and a bit of herb and spice. Soft and supple for a Zin. Sort of easy and smooth, but has a bit of fruit and nice round flavor. A bit puckery and a berry/plum linger on the finish. A good Zinfandel for the Merlot drinker perhaps. . .I like a little more dramatic presentation in my Zins.

R.H. Philips Zinfandel 2004
Esparto, CA. 14.5%
92% Zin, 8% Petite Sirah
Smoke and spice with some alcohol and that berry jam of Zin on the nose. A bit of rust on the fringe color-wise. Softer and smoother flavors than a complex Zin. Some smoke and spice in the finish. Lingers with nice dry fruit leather and roast nut elements to finish. Decent and drinkable Zin. Too bad it appears it was phased out by the winery instead of improved.

Jammy zin nose with bits of spice and incense cedar. Delicious fruit and tart berry flavours. A touch of ink and smoke. Just the right tannins and smack for the finish. Cline does it again! And I think this vintage may be a winner which makes it even better.

Shenandoah Vineyards Vinter's Selection Zinfandel 2006
14.2% Plymouth, CA
CCOF certified organic grapes.
Nice nose of huckleberry, cocoa, and a bit of mint. Fruit on palate, but also a bit of licorice and smoke. Tongue smacker with a good lingering finish. Excellent foothill Zin. Much more complex and deep than most.

Nose: Powerful nose. blackberry and citrus of raspberry and pineapple.
In mouth: long taste. tannins. leather/animal taste. harvesting mushrooms in the forest. vegetal.

Extracted and deep Zin notes on aroma. Some alcohol with plum, dry cherry and leather scents. Strong wine. Not really complex or very rich but has dark fruit flavors with some bitter/spicy elements. Low on sweetness, a bit of alcohol and crisp tannins. A very good hot climate Zin, but a little overpowering with the alcohol and fruit bombing. Might be nice with bar-b-q ribs or carnitas.

Deep, robust, dried fruit nose. Smokey, heavy aromas. A little cedar and some dry wood elements in there. Dark jammy fruit flavors. Not exactly sweet, a little tart, a little tannic but mostly smooth and clean finishing. A bit bitter, licorice flavored on the finish. Not your mellow, easy drinking wine but one loaded with flavors. Good choice for those who like the "powerful" Zinfandels. Gnarly Dude! Could even be an "epic" wine. . .

Thin, weakish wine. Nice nose but a bit too much alcohol comes through. Varies by bottle. Plenty of fruit. Some character. Too old to drink perhaps.
