Tuttobene Toscana Rosso igt 2006

Bottled by: Tenimenti Angelini, S. p. A. Castallina in Chianti, Italy. 13%.
Imported by: Wilson Daniels Ltd., St. Helena, CA

Heavy, dark nose. Some fruit, some liquor. Good balanced flavors. Not overly tannin with dark fruits and tart tongue. Pleasing notes. Pretty simple Italian red wine, but well made and pleasing. Perfect for the pasta, red sauce and meatballs.

Primo Amore Sangiovese (51%) Merlot (49%) 2005

Bottled by Casa Vinicola, Gamellara/Sicilia Ind. Geo. Tipica, Zonin, Italy. 13%
Imported by: Zonin USA Inc. Charlottesville, VA
(Cheesy Romeo and Juliet quote about a rose by any other name. . .on the label).

Rustic, sweet but pleasing nose with a fruity herby mix. Smooth and jammy in the mouth, but tempered by elegant tannins and a nice bitter hint. Good but unconventional blend. Keeps the good name of Sicilian reds intact. Nice hearty but balanced wine with an unfortunate label of roses and Shakespeare related B.S. comparing Romeo and Juliet to Merlot and Sangiovese. I guess it goes to show, don't always judge a wine by it's label.

Mild nose. Good ink and spice elements in the nose. Tart with fruit mixed with smoke and spice on the tongue. Good level of tannins, but flavor complements them. A robust and heavy wine with plenty of pizazz. Could be a little softer but good flavor throughout.

Lamura Nero d' Avola Sicilia 2005

Bottled by: GI S. Pa. Trento, 13%
Imported by: FWI. Rutherford, NJ

Deep, intense nose of cherry, ink and licorice. Fruit forward wine with lots of violet, ink and extracted flavors. Tannins and pucker finish but supple at the start. Nice drinkable Italian style with deep colors and tastes to match any eggplant parmesan. Similar to the Parducci Petite Sirah. "Taste off"?

Berry nose, extracted fruit. Smooth fruit with plenty of dark red fruit flavor. A bit tannic but nice lingering finish. May age well. A strong and robust wine with something to chew on. Not extra-ordinary but a good representation of Italian wines.

Montetondo Chianti Superiore 2001

Castello di Monastero, Italy 13.5%
Bottled by Azienda Agricola Castello di Monastero
Imported by Vinum International. Napa, CA.

Not very tannic/dry for Chianti. Ripe fruits and very little tart acids. Pretty standard style but good/fair Italian style wine. Plenty of red fruits and some tannins but not very balanced.
